March: The Month I Rushed to Build Everything From Scratch
Note
この 時期に 知ったのはWAF(Web Application Firewall)です。
● Building a Website From Zero
It was my first time using WordPress, and honestly, I barely understood how anything worked. I moved forward through pure trial and error while experimenting with the site design. However, there was one idea I had from the very beginning: “I do not want to make an ordinary website.” While I do not mean to criticize standard blog formats, I constantly feared being buried among countless creators online back then, and kept asking myself, “How can people actually find my work?” That feeling made me believe from the very start that the site needed something unique that other websites did not have.
● Searching for the Site’s Direction
At the time, I had vague ideas about the site's design, concept, and long-term direction, but turning those ideas into reality was extremely difficult. On a previous website, I mainly introduced my own works. However, I gradually realized a painful truth: if an unknown creator only promotes unknown works, people rarely arrive in the first place. That realization pushed me to rethink the entire direction of the website.
The word “COLORS” in the site name was chosen very intentionally. Just as colors can take countless forms, I wanted the website itself to grow into something flexible enough to change and contain many different kinds of content over time. Originally, I envisioned something closer to a portal site—a place that could handle trending topics, creative projects, and the latest technologies like AI. I wanted visitors to feel, “If I visit this site, maybe I’ll discover something interesting.” I was hoping to create a site design inspired by platforms like YouTube or Omocoro.
● Creating a Theme Park Together With AI
In order to make the website feel unique, I came up with the idea of building an actual theme park inside the site. Although it was a complete unknown how much I could actually pull off, it came from the simple idea that a moving theme park would just be a lot of fun. So I started building the project together with ChatGPT and Gemini.
Watching the moving theme park slowly take shape was incredibly exciting! However, because it was my first coding experience, I often had no idea what was happening. Errors constantly appeared, and the entire screen would suddenly turn completely white, making the production run into a wall. That was the moment I learned how delicate coding really is—even a single missing comma could break everything.
I spent several days fighting to fix those errors. The screen would turn white, I would search for the cause, and then I would insert the code again to gradually expand the theme park.
It was an endless cycle of creating and fixing, creating and fixing. Although the AI generated all the code for me, figuring out the exact right place to insert it correctly was incredibly difficult. It was a painstaking process where mistakes were not allowed (haha). Every single time I updated the code, I prayed, “Please don’t turn white again…” (haha).
● Migrating Content and Building My Own Manga Viewer
I had already been posting manga on platforms like Note and pixiv, but large platforms contain an enormous number of creators, making it difficult for people to discover my smaller works. I also worried about relying too heavily on external platforms because visibility could suddenly change through algorithm or policy updates, and there is always the worst-case risk of an account ban. That is why I wanted a place that could truly function as my own secure creative base. March became the month of massive content migration.
However, simply moving the content was not enough; I also needed a viewer to display my manga. While I could have just installed a plugin, I decided to build an original manga viewer together with AI from scratch so it would match the site's unique design and look exactly how I intended.
I became obsessed with the tiny details and ended up making multiple different viewer versions (haha). Building the manga viewer itself was also incredibly fun.
● Fighting Against WAF and Establishing a Production Style
One crucial thing I learned during this period was the existence of WAF (Web Application Firewall)—the security system that protects websites. To ensure my manga is accessible to as many readers as possible, I add furigana to kanji using ruby tags (<ruby>). However, when a post contains a massive amount of ruby-tag code, the WAF system can falsely flag it as a suspicious script and block the article from saving. After failing to save my posts over and over again, I started developing a production style that actively bypassed and accounted for WAF limitations from that point forward.
● March Was Full of Things I Didn’t Understand
In this way, March was a month filled with unfamiliar problems and sudden technical barriers. Since everything was brand new to me, I barely understood what I was doing at first, but I desperately kept moving forward, trying to shape the website into something real as quickly as possible.
